In perfect Timelapsed fashion, I just saw an old (very old) article about certain TNG characters wanting to get their own spin offs from the Picard series. Specifically Troi and Dr Crusher.
While I am not a full on TNG fan boy fanatic..I like it for the most part, I see what and where it is in the whole Trek fandom, and am starting to like it more and more. But there was certainly a time where I did not feel this way.
Sure it’s mostly good Trek. The writing at times is some of the best. Sure the characters did a great bit of growing on people. So I am happy to see the actors want to keep their on screen personas going.
But the ones in question have repeatedly throughout the years thrown Trek under the bus. Some just enough to garner a look. Some seemed eager to poke a finger in Trek’s eye at every chance they got.
And I get it. We have all heard of some of the crap they went through in the day.
But now that there is that glimmer of Latinum in front of their face.. Everyone is more than happy to jump on that shuttle and collect.
Am I against this? No. Not really. Unless they make the money grab so obvious that it makes the projects off-putting.
Do I wanna see Crusher again? Maybe. Do I wanna see Troi again? Probably yes.
Am I worried what the writers of today are going to try and make them? Hell yes!
I don’t wanna see Alexander, or any shit like that.
I don’t wanna see all kinds of fanboy call backs or a Lower Decks level of namedropping every other sentence. I wanna see these people move on. Win, lose, die, or draw.
Every single crew member does not have to be someone that goes down in the history books for some incredible feat. They can be a great inspiration just being a normal person.
I wanna see that happen. Even the bad, wrong decisions make stories or lead somewhere.
Because Andor happened we all know it can be done,, I want that in Star Trek
