Still deciding…

Back in this old post I was (literally) rediscovering some of my old music. Old albums that I had that I thought were lost. Both Vinyl and Cd, and realizing that I had no way of listening to either of them…

I found a turntable and Cd player. I was now able to listen to some of those albums that for some, I hadn’t heard in 40 years. That fact made me think that maybe mixing in some album reviews here would be a good idea. And that is where I left it.

But I have since had a few thoughts on doing album or music reviews.

Oh I do like the idea of being able to listen to and talk about this old stuff again. But I really have no idea how to review an album. I mean.. As easy as that sounds, is that what I would be doing?

I don’t have any authority to be gauging or rating things like technicality or use of applicable musical theory or anything down those lines But what I can do, is talk about what I was doing when I first heard this album or song, or what the mood was around the time that song came out, or what this sounds like to me both now and back then.

I have a very wide and sometimes surprising taste in music. But there are also styles or voices that I just don’t like. So “reviews” could be polar opposite of what others may have for the same selections.

We absolutely listen and consume music much so differently than we used to, and that detail has a big effect on how music works on you individually.

Maybe I’ll give it a shot. Even though I don’t really have a format for reviewing albums or music in general, I can figure that out along the way, because just by glancing over at those albums, i can see that every single one of them has something I can say about it.
