Up on the watch block this weekend was 2026 Amazon/MGM/Sony Masters of the Universe. Yep. The new He-Man movie!
We start out in a flashback of Prince Adam on Eternia as a kid doing every day Prince stuff with all of the usual characters. Teela, The Sorceress, Man at Arms.. basically every one that you would expect to see.
But a sudden attack by Skeletor’s army of villains forces the King and Queen to try and save Adam and the Sword of Power by opening a portal to modern day earth.

Here he is supposed to be safe and Skeletor cannot obtain the Sword of Power. But of course Prince Adam does not fit in with this world, and spends years trying to get back to his Eternia. But of course Skeletor finds him and the sword…
Before we get into the actual “reviewing” I’d like to have you watch this seemingly unrelated fan made Star Wars clip.. trust me on this.
There have been some very good He-Man Masters of the Universe offerings out there. See Timelapsed review of the Kevin Smith 2021 Masters of the Universe: Revelation This 2026 Travis Knight version is not in that very good category. Good may also be pushing it.
This was a movie that I both really wanted to see, and really didn’t want to see all at the same time. Let’s just say that the trailers didn’t do it any favors. But hey, I have been fooled quite a few times by trailers. This was not one of those times.
Now it’s not complete trash. There are some genuine good things. The actual story and plot, at the core were fairly solid. The landscapes and settings were familiar and fine. The sound track.. well ok, it mostly felt out of place or even for the wrong movie (when you hear it you’ll know), but,,,great music regardless.
But then the bad catches up. Did you watch that “If Star Wars had a $10 budget” video up there? That 100% is all I could think of the entire 140 minutes of runtime.
The poor costume choices, the so bad of acting and worse attempt at comedy, I even right now don’t know how this ever got finalized. I’m serious here.
But damn it. I still kinda liked it. Maybe it’s the old gamer in me that will absolutely take good gameplay and good story over graphics any day of the week.
I am going to say, yes. Go watch Masters of the Universe. It has just enough of the good to maybe let some of the lackluster slip past.
