During the last week or two I have been giving the release of Warcraft Forever more thought than I ever thought it needed. I am not THAT excited about it TBH, but it did make me go look back at my old content.
My first ever blog was a Warcraft Blog called Wearing of the Cloth. After a few frustrating years of playing WoW as a Warrior and then Paladin, I discovered that the Mage and Priest class just worked much better for me.
I started to jot down my in game experience in the Wrath era. Eventually the focus went to cloth wearing classes in general. Eventually even expanding onto a spin off site, Leather and Steel.
Same as today, the content was not exactly earth shattering, but it was going back and reading the earliest posts and getting a feel for the mood and enjoyment I had during those earlier chapters of Warcraft is what made me slightly change my outlook of Forever. But I do know that “you can’t go home again” soni will stay wary.
My plan for Forever? I have none. And that’s the way I want it. I am not looking up anything, I’m not looking at guides, I want to go in as blind as I can be. But no matter how much info I avoid I am already miles ahead in Warcraft knowledge than I was then.
I didn’t know what to expect back then, and I am probably already expecting too much now. So that will play a big part in my game play, game decisions, game direction. In fact, the game is not even out yet, and I am already starting to form class choice decisions that I know are absolutely not what I would have chosen back then just because of what I know now.
My first class choice in games, any games, is usually the hack and slash melee Warrior types. Same as it was in Burning Crusade when I started WoW. But my playstyle and character direction led me to the casters and healers. And I think that is where I will start in Forever. No sense in “wasting” two years of playing to figure that out again.
At time of writing, we are 6 days out from launch and that is as much planning that I have done. A casting class. Well that and I am thinking of maybe reviving the Wearing of the Cloth site. (Pretty much have to. That site and theme is 15 years old and is not mobile friendly…at all)
Stay tuned
