Daredevil: Born Again

The newest Daredevil season over at Disney is now in the books. Anything that is Disney nowadays gets dumped on pretty quickly. But is Born Again worth anything?

When the Daredevil series came to Netflix 10 years ago, yes ten years ago, I was pretty pumped. Always “liked” Daredevil as a character. At least the “superhero” part of him.  But seeing that they were going to focus more on the other parts of Matt Murdock, I figured I was gonna get what I always wanted out of a Batman series.

The Netflix series got off to a good start, but quickly lost its steam and I don’t think I ever started its final season.
But now Jump ahead to 2025.

Disney+ took up the series and was immediately hit with bad press. Bad this, bad that. They are going to ruin the character, blah blah.  I was genuinely not interested in starting back into a series that I previously stopped watching.
But I did watch.

I don’t exactly know or what changed, but the entire feel of the show is different somehow. Things look the same. Characters are the same. Locations are… mostly the same. But right from the get go, Born Again was great. I was in.

I was kind of worried since there was a big chunk of the Netflix series that I missed. But the show eases you in. Not a full blown Batman-esque total recap from day one intro, but enough dribbles of info to get me onboard and up to speed with where things are right now.

A shock scene for tension later and we are into the meat of the story and rolling. Well you almost need to be with how short seasons are these days. Keeping a perfect pace of backstory, current story progression, multi character developments and action, Daredevil: Born Again holds your attention.

I was really glad to be back to weekly episodes rather than the Netflix all at once stuff on this series. It just felt like a better format for it. I found myself looking forward to and planning around each new episode.

Though it is not without its negatives. As in the Netflix version, I just don’t like The Kingpin. The character itself is fine, but it’s D’Onofrio’s portrayal, I just,,don’t like it. I just don’t, and every scene with Kingpin in it takes me completely out of the zone. He just too,, slow or muted.

I had seen some media reports of how the ending was wrapped up pretty tight, in case the series didn’t get renewed, but I don’t know where that came from. I wouldn’t call it a cliffhanger ending, but it certainly wasn’t wrapped tight, and really started a new chapter in this just starting story.

I can honestly say that I am glad I gave Daredevil: Born Again a shot. Especially after hearing all the bad reports on it. If you have even the slightest knowledge or past interest in Daredevil, do yourself a favor and check out the newest season on Disney plus. I think you will be surprised as I was.

(Oh, and yes, season 2 or is it 5?.. Has started filming)
