Standard operating procedure here at Timelapsed for reviewing tv or movies is to keep putting it off, but eventually find enough time to get to it, far after the fact.
But I am actually getting a bit of time these past few days and am able to watch a couple of things happening in real time, as they are being released.
The first show that I’m jumping into is Agatha All Along. A continuation(?) of WandavVision. Staring Kathryn Hahn and Joe Locke. It may not be apparent from my previous posting, but after rewatching Wandavision, I think it is very much underated, even though it gets decent reviews.
However,, Agatha is NOT getting such a warm welcome during these days of Disney+ hate. But I do not see why. Agatha all Along, while having a slightly different “feel” than WandaVision, it is currently weaving a rather engaging clue dropping mystery.
Definitly carrying over Wanda storylines and characters, the show is really at a good pace, with the final two episodes dropping this week
The writing is fantastic and like Wanda, pulls from a wide range of the Avenger-verse, but does keep the bulk of the story mostly self contained. Once again another surprise hit from the often critisized Disney/Marvel. Highly recommend getting on the Agatha train this week before the ending is spoiled
And the second show that I have just started and still has episodes coming out for a few more weeks is HBO’s “The Penguin”.
Batman and Batman things have been getting a good dose of content lately. With The Caped Crusader out on Prime and now The Penguin on Max, the franchise seems to be holding its own, even though the superhero genre is slowing down a bit.
The Penguin is a gritty, somewhat violent series directly connected to the 2022 The Batman movie. Staring Colin Farrell and Cristen Milioti.
A Batman universe movie with no Batman sounds like a no go,, but the set up and story lines here are so good, that until I started writing this, I almost completely forgot this was a Bat-verse show. This series would be pretty great regardless of the setting,
But there are just enough reminders sprinkled in to keep us planted in Gotham.
I am just over midway through the generously long episodes, and it feel like the tempo just keeps slowly building. I am 100% enjoying this and 100% reccomend this to not only Bat fans, but crime genre fans in general.
The Penguin isnt even over yet, but I cant help but wish they would keep thing moving with other Bat characters, hero or villian. This style of show really fits.
There you go,, some mid season tidbits. Get in there and watch these two,, they are fantastic.
