Batman: Caped Crusader

Sometimes I get completely out of the loop, as in the case of this one. Batman: Caped Crusader. A new animated 10 episode series on Amazon Prime. I had no idea this was a thing.

A big 2024 production by the likes of companies like Bad Robot, 6th and Idaho and of course Warner bros.

Really has the feel of an updated 90’s Batman: the Animated Series, and that is probably because Bruce Timm is leading both of them.

Caped Crusader in its 10 episode first season run covers alot of ground. The 25ish minute episodes feel quite longer and are used to give modern updates on some well known Bat-verse characters.

I would not say they are modern “spins” on them, or completely changing the characters either.. more like tightening them up in todays vibe.

Well ok, Penguin might have changed “appearance” a bit,, but still is still Penguin in every other scale.

The one very noticable difference in Crusader over Animated is the violence factor. In the Animated there was violence for sure, but mostly eluded to violence or clubs to the head,, but in Crusader,, there is no eluding anything. Murder, corruption.. its got it all. Even for being a Batman show, things get a little dark at times.

Covering the likes of Penguin as mentioned, we get Montoya, Barbera, Catwoman, Two Face… all written fantastic. With glimpses of the past and how things shook out to todays Gotham. Action, despair, hope, gripping decisions, it really has everything.

This show is an absolute must, even if you are not a Batman fanatic. It’s one of the best series in any genre in quite a while, animated or not. And with the ending, it looks like we have more to come.

Whole heartedly giving this at least a 9/10 !
