The Acolyte

I was debating whether or not to even post a review Star Wars: The Acolyte. As seemingly it is fashionable to torpedo the series.

I am not a bandwagon jumper, if anything, I’m the opposite. But The Acolyte is for the most part, a bad watch. Maybe not as bad as some of the exaggerated reviews, but its nearly there.

Now if some one broke down the series in a very day one basic story board with just the barest of bones synopsis, I think the show sounds good.

But when the time came to fill in the gaps and actual scenes worked in with dialogue and actor choices, the damn thing exploded into complete failure.

It has been quite sometime that I laughed out loud at things that were just plain too stupid to contain.

I had flashbacks to the first time I watched Sharknado, where I didn’t yet know if this was actually the way they intended it to be or not.

Then we get to retconning. I am not against retconning when it is done to “fix” things. Mistakes are made and can hold up stories.. but changing histories and characters and major plots of decades of canon just to make your new bad script fit is a disaster, a deal breaker.

You don’t even need to go out of your way to find bad writing, bad acting bad choices. They just keep coming at you, and you eventually just give up and wait for the next headshake.

Then to make matter worse, the showrunners and some of the lead actors get out there to say its the fans that suck, not the show. That alone probably made people stop watching.

Arrg. But there are a few good things. The lightsaber stuff was for the most part well done. The in-ship scenes good, A few of the sub plots would been a far better main story, and made for a few decent character progressions worthwhile.

I really cannot find a reason to recommend The Acolyte other than to witness just how bad and how fast a show can just snowball out of control.

The finale isn’t even 24 hours cold yet, and I’m wishing some one, some one competent, would take the original story idea and remake this, if for nothing else but to wash this version out of my mind.
