My first book of the year was a Thriller/Mystery. The 6:20 Man by David Baldacci. 2022 417 pages

A standard plot of an ex military trying to make it back home, but getting unwillingly recruited by secret branches of the government to stop a world threat.
Mix in some murder, deception, and financial crime, and you have the entire plot of The 6:20 Man.
But even with the very straight foreward, heavily troped plot, the characters did manage to stand out a little.
However, by not having any sort of originality in the story, everything just grinds ahead with out any real excitment.
It did keep my interest for the most part, but generally because there was always this background feeling that something unexpected was about to happen.
But then it never did.
I can’t really say that it was a bad book, because for some reason, I enjoyed the odd cadence of how things just kept circling in a very tight pattern.
This was a very easy read, with very few distractions or deviations, so I am staying away from any spoiler or plot discussion at all as those would easily give up everything in the book.
But it actually was a good fit for the hectic past few weeks, so that is a plus.
The 6:20 Man by David Baldacci. Good time filler. 2.5/5
