Doctor Who 2023 Specials

If you are a Doctor Who fan, then you, like me, were waiting for these 3 specials to drop. All kinds of things were supposed to be happening with not only the show its self, but the characters both future and past as well

David Tennant returning as 14 was quite a shock at the end of Jodie Whittaker’s run. Is it a return? An accident? Wait a second,, I thought Ncuti Gatwa was the next Doctor?

And with the move to Disney, who the hell knows what could happen. But the episodes finally arrived to answer all of these questions… sorta.

Three somewhat stand alone episodes. The first, “The Star Beast” Brought back Donna Noble. Again I think we were all waiting to see how her mostly open ended plot cames to its end.

But weaving her main plot along with all of her other little sub plots and character interactions, 10’s return, and a brand new threat to earth was quite a bit to take in all at once. And that really took the steam out of each point.

Donna’s return should have been a huge deal, but it just sorta got stuffed under the rug. Sure it was a great idea and great story direction,, but it felt over shadowed.
I think they wasted 3 decent stories here. But in the end, it was good episode in spite of it all.

Next was “Wild Blue Yonder” I really liked this episode. It felt the most like a Doctor Who episode of this new run. This is what I like in a Doctor who. A bit of mystery, a bit of horror, thrilling actions.. It was a definitely a David Tennant episode. It even had a set up for the third of the three specials.

“The Giggle” This episode I imagine is going to ruffle the feathers of some fans. There just as in the first of the three, there is quite a lot happening,, but unlike the first, the pacing and pay off was much much better.

We got to see Wilf one more time. How could you have 10 (14) and Donna with out Wilf? And Neil Patrick Harris as the Toy Maker.. what else can you say there, other than I want to see more of that.

But then stuff happens. We all knew 14’s time was going to be short. But that scene still caught me off gaurd. But what kind of trickery is this? Biregeneration?

Hold up now. So we now have two Doctors? This seems like a bad idea if you are the guy who is named Ncuti Gatwa.
You just brought back the most popular Doctor, only to be told that, ya he is still here, but we gonna focus on this new guy.

Is this just a contingincy plan for if 15 is booed off the stage? Why if 14 is there, but not there, is the show being relabled as season 1 again?

Now I got nothing against the new Doctor, but it looks like he is getting gimped already before he even starts. But I am ready to see how this all plays out.

Over all I did like these three specials. It was good to see how they set up the new wave, how old peices were tied up and how old characters returned to the show after much time off.
Donna came back around to be Donna with a new out look. But the best part, was Tennants ability to not only play 10 as 10 again, but also adding bits and peices, quirks, and feelings of 11 12 and 13 all at once.

But I am ready for some new adventures. I can’t wait.
