Since Star Trek Strange New Worlds season 2 is set to drop next week, I have, like many, been rewatching season 1.

Its just absurd how much better this nearly unplanned series spin off is than its originator, Discovery.
Better story, better acting, characters, better writing, better everything. And apprently Paramount+ is in agreement as Discovery has been canceled but SNW has gotten season added on.
Its a little mix of everything that gives this series such a familiar, but longley missed feeling. The characters, some new some old feel like you have known them forever, but also seeing them work into what you knew, all while knowing when to throw in some of that TOS style of humor.

And as like most fans, I was a bit sceptical of the recasts, but the writing and acting is so good that I nearly immediatly put that behind.

As per Star Trek style, SNW takes todays topics and talking points and gently weaves (sometimes not so gently) them into the story and resolves or reacts to them in world, by how each character… in character would. And because Trek encompasses layers and layers upon layers of character points of view, the outcome of those topics and talk points are never quite predictable, making you think about them in a ways you maybe didn’t consider.

Season one was purely fantastic, but there are a few things that can be tightened up a bit for the future seasons.
Sure Pike, has conflictions with knowing future Pikes fate, but pointing it out or flashing back at every opportunity, starts to get stale. We know already.. we don’t need 12 reminders every episode.

Ortegas. maybe tone her down a notch. I like her character, and as much background as we get, but the “look at me” stuff just pulls me out of the flow that the rest of the show is in.
But I’m ready for season two right now!
Can’t wait for next week!
