Picard season 3

I have given the Picard series finale a chance to sink it. Sometimes my view of things change a bit after I get time to soak some things in. Do my initial reactions hold up?

There probably will be spoilers here, so be warned.

As season three came along I was pretty dang leary of getting my hopes up. Season 1 and 2 were not great. Good may even be pushing it. the entire premace of Picard seemed to be constantly dropping fan boy easter eggs and obscure TNG call backs just to distract from the weak story developing.

Then after hearing for months, or maybe a year before hand how this will be the final season, and all the major players from previous Treks will be on board to give Picard his send off. and Stewart previously saying he didn’t want Picard series to just be a TNG reunion, I wasnt giving this more than just a season of small cameos and one time bit parts.

And for the first couple of episodes, thats what it felt like. I think I may have even posted something here to that effect. Season 3 used whole episodes to bring in one specific character at a time but nothing much happening. It seemed as though they were going to run out of episodes before the plot even started.

Oh I did like seeing the old crew. Beverly, Worf, Riker, Troi were there for more than just cameos. But Picard and Beverlys out of the blue son, plus the added Laforge kids felt like a reach. It really did.
But eventually that whole scenario starting coming together. Still feels… off, or something. But much better than it initially did.

It took almost 5 episodes before the plot starts to finally unfold, but we still dont even have a couple of the major characters on screen yet. But when Geordie and Data(s) do make thier entrances, it really felt like its 1990 again. Everything just sort of meshed. It got gud, so to say.

Old crew meeting old enemies, in old ships has failure written all over it, but, they pulled it off. It really did feel like a great ending to that whole chapter of Star Trek.

Oh there were a few minor and not so minor things that were left unfinished or at least not shown, but I am going to assume we will see something to address them in the future.
And the final end credit scene? They better follow through with that!

This season of Picard is no doubt and by far the best of it’s 3. It’s some of the best Trek in recent years.
I just hope some of this rubs off on Strange New Worlds and lets us forget that we still to make it through one more Discovery and whatever this StarFleet Academy appears to be.
