Once and Always…

I was able to see the newest Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always on Netflix last night.

I purposely tried to watch no trailers or read any articles on it what so ever (that was pretty easy because there wasnt much to avoid) so I was going in blind.

Right out of the gate I had my doubts as I had to rewind to the beginning twice to see if I skipped ahead somehow. But no, it seems we jump into this “movie” about halfway into the plot.

As per the usual, I’ll try to be as spoiler free as possible, but beware.

I mean, the plots arnt that deep in Power Ranger land anyway, but it sure felt like i missed something here.

From this point on was a roller coaster of good old Power Ranger quips, to horrendous drops, fan boy inserts to pandering inclusions.

The most obvious problem though was the Rangers line up its self. instead of adressing who did not return or why. They just skipped over all that, akwardly adding in other Rangers like none of it mattered at all.

But some where in all of that confusion was a story that actually had a chance to be somewhat good. But the overall poor acting (bad even in Power Ranger scale) and even worse writing really tore everything right down.

Yet,, I was glued to the screen the entire time. As it was great to see the old faces again anyway.

Nostalgia kept Once and Always afloat, and possibly set up for a new generation of Mighty Morphin,, and I’m sure I’d be on board. But looking past that,, this was a tough watch.
