The Grand Hotel

I picked up the book, The Grand Hotel by Scott Kenemore several months ago for my Kindle, but never got around to it until last month.

I wasnt even sure what it was about, but the cover looked interesting and it was one of the first books that popped up when I seached mystery fiction. I didnt realise it was propably more suited to horror genre, but,, a surprise is good, right?

It will be hard not to include spoilers from here on out but I will try.

The Grand Hotel, a 361 page story of stories so to say. A Hotel front desk operator offers to take a bunch of tourists on a tour of the behind the scenes workings of the mysterious,, the ominous Grand Hotel.

A hotel that years ago according to Vic the desk clerk, was once a top go to resort. Now past its glory, the hotel is home to several residents and workers that each spin a spectacular, but unnerving tale of thier past for the flock of tourists.

The tourists (and the reader) are led to all corners of the hotel all while “something” is playing out around them.

I’ll leave it there. Easier not spoil things that way.
I must say that horror is not my thing. And was very close to not even going forward with this book. But it very quickly grabbed me and had me binge reading as fast as I could.

I said it was a story of stories, and that’s what I’d still go with. A main story of “in story” characters telling individual stories of their own.

I will admit I, and probably most other readers connect the dots very quickly and figure out, or mostly figure out the over all plot,, but it’s those individual tales of the off characters and the fairly unique writing style that makes this book worth the read.

I started out not at all interested, but it ended up as one great book. Go check it out.
