Mid series Rings of Power

My first post a few weeks ago regarding the Amazon series The Rings of Power was more or less me getting ready for the new series and wondering how well it’s going to go.

Well. Holy shit. I know anything and everything today gets polarized in the fandoms.. but wow, two things…
1- RoP getting a beatdown like I don’t recall. Even the Peter Jackson beatdowns look tame compared to the current assault.

2- Its good!

Now you do need to make a few concessions. But the essence of the “story” is there. Cramming 3000 (more or less) years into a few hour long episodes is never going to feel quite right. But this show is doing a decent job pointing things in the right direction and weaving them together.
They have taken garbled bits of info and scattered references from Tolkien and are laying them out and making them digestible to a larger audience who probably didn’t or wouldn’t or couldn’t follow along before.

Dare I say even better than the Silmarillion, which also covers several thousand years but no where near is as “story like” as this.

But trying not to focus on the critics and just taking in the story that we are given by Amazon and The Rings of Power, it has been enjoyable so far. They are pacing and spacing the multiple story lines very well keeping them all just as important to the over all,, but at the same time keeping parts a mystery.

I’m not going to say this is an incredible, life changing series or anything like that, as some of the portrayals are are,,, well,, off, and don’t modernize that great, and maybe throwing in a few too many 2022 tropes…
But it does scratch the Tolkien itch and is keeping me in.
