I had to take some time to let some of this series sink in and maybe try to figure out why this happened. Still can’t, but here is the mostly spoiler free review anyway.
Like any other Star Wars fan, I couldn’t wait for the Boba Fett series. Especially after the horrendously long wait after it’s first announcement.
The escape from the Sarlacc put was a given and pretty much went off as we expected. The Tusken time was not a complete surprise, given the location and bits from The Mandalorian. And it really fed into some of Boba’s strong points, and it looked like we were heading in the right direction. Slow moving.. but looking good.
Then things started veering of course. It was kinda like watching an accident happen in slow motion. It seemed at first that they were deliberately dangling another shoe to drop, and Boba gets to be Boba and tear shit up.
Nope.
I’m still waiting to see if the rest of the series was actually some crazy dream Boba was having in the Bacta tank.
The name of this show was The Book of Boba Fett. And yes, Boba Fett was in it… a little. But the best parts didn’t have anything to do with him, or even have him in it for that matter.
The cameos (lots of cameos) and the side stories were what this show was really about. I’m pretty sure they had extra bits of story they needed to show in order to set up The Mandalorian, and just added the Boba stuff as filler.
If the overall purpose was to move the story that The Mandalorian is set into its next season,, that worked well.
But the rest of it was just… bad. Embarrassing even.
A couple of Star Trek-esque shorts or mini episodes would have worked better to convey what they needed and spare poor Boba’s rep.
Bits of this show are going to be necessary watching for the next Mandalorian and possibly other Star Wars series to make sense. But dang, we do not need more of this version of Boba Fett.
