Domain.

While I have watched my share of TV during this Covid social distancing stretch, There really hasnt been much that has been worth writing about lately. Good or bad.

In fact, there hasnt been much that I have been interested in even watching in the past month.

But today Domain popped up in the movies I might like section.

Domain – 2016  Director: Nathaniel Atcheson

Staring Britt Lower, Ryan Merriman, William Gregory Lee

The description on Netflix was..

After a deadly virus wipes out most of humanity, the survivors are forced to wait in self-sustaining bunkers with a networked video interface for communication, but one by one, they start mysteriously disappearing.”

The beginning feels some what relevant as they talk of a virus that’s killing everyone. But a few people,, “lucky people” get to hid out in remote, special made bunkers in order to survive the plague.

We are dropped in with 7 of the survivors after they have been in seclusion, except for webcams for several years already. And as you would expect, they are all in various states of mental injury.

From all across the country they Zoom into each other daily as they live out the their routines, but, some of them are starting to unravel and things with in the bunkers start to fail.

Gradually,,(well,, rather quickly. Only because we don’t have much for time references), some of the group start losing the mental battle with seclusion and paranoia and start begin to try to break the quarantine… or worse

But the paranoia becomes real as unknown masked people begin busting into their bunkers to abduct them, on camera for the rest to see.

The rest of the group now know they are in trouble, are trying to escape. And eventually succeed, only to find they are just an experiment.

While this is not quite the end of the movie, it is where I will stop.

Ok… So how exactly was this movie? Well, this movie is a big circle of going from an OK plot, to being obviously predictable, to even more predictable, then.. What?!! C’mon.. Then back to an ok plot.

I’ve tried not to spoil too much of it this time,, but after 15 minutes, you’ll pretty much know where its going, until the odd twist.

But for some reason, the knowing whats going on and where its going didn’t seem to stop me from kinda liking this movie. It was always on that edge of maybe, just maybe taking the next turn, while only slightly dipping its toes over that line.

I could feel each of those 7 peoples struggles with seclusion,, each different and but familiar. And even as short as this movie was, getting development and a different feel from 7 different people is pretty remarkable.

Now this is no award winner, but no complete fail. And maybe its just my lack of seeing anything of substance recently, but I would say,, yea, watch it. It was good. Just let it happen and don’t think to hard about it because there are quite a few issues (alot really),but still enjoyable.
