I just got back from watching “Rise of Skywalker” and I thought it was a fantastic movie. A fantastic Star Wars movie.
It had story, action, much less comedy attempts this time around, and it had an ending. It also had what makes a Star Wars movie, a Star Wars movie… those plot points where we are dumped in the middle of something with little explanation of how or what happened on the way to where they are.
Now that last point, while on the outside sounds like poor story writing or producing, is very much a Star Wars trade mark from the start. It skips the story ahead to more important thing, while at the same time making the audience use their brain to fill in the gaps.
This has been used in nearly every SW movie. “hey we need to go to X planet and do X.” Next scene, BOOM! We are on X planet and starting to do X. Its just how it works. Dont start complaining now just because its cool to hate nowadays.
If you have been following along, especially the last two movies, TRoS is not hard to follow, or out of place at all. Ya they added plot points, but in away that not only made sense, they fit in with narrative, and were followed up and finished. And if you think ANY other movie franchise wraps things up after 40 years with out giving nods to past characters or past places then you are just looking for things to hate, regardless.
I see in reviews all over already that this movie destroys everything that has happened in the other 8 (10) movies. I think that is complete crap.
Things fall into place very nicely when you look at all the subtle hints, and drops through out the span of all the movies.
And most importantly, just because you came up your own ending and ideas of how you think it should end,, but then it doesn’t, that does not destroy the rest.
I went in as complete fan, with a vast knowledge of the Star Wars Universe. I had my own theories and have seen a 100 other theories, both good and bad. But I also went in completely open to what ever ending was going to happen, and then, and only then judge it.
This movie really did it well. I’m not sure what the naysayers watched or what they thought was gonna happen, but this movie was pretty damn good and a good ending to the series. (that also left a few doors unlocked if they need to be opened)
Go watch it and let it unfold.
