It has been along time since I’ve been looking for a sports game to play. Used to be all about EA sports NHL or Tiger woods golf, and of course Madden Football. There must be something football I can quick download and throw some Touchdowns.
Ah,, here we go Madden NFL Mobile Football from the EA on Google Play Store.
10 million downloads and a 4.1 score.. Looks like it should be good. Free to play,, with of course in app purchasing.
Very quick download and install, was expecting a much bigger patch download once we started but nope,, we were good to go.
I get in the game right away, starting with the training camp stuff. Which was good because I was already wondering how we are gonna get around not having shoulder buttons and the like.
General stuff like rush thru the line, throw a pass, rush the passer. And easy. Probably too easy and I bet a lot of people just skip right passed this. But if they did then the missed a more indepth training that covers different offence types and situations
But these controls. Omg. I have a phone,, fairly heavy one I guess, one that is not ergonomically designed for optimum game playing.
I want both hands on the phone like a gamepad with V-sticks and buttons. This would make sense to everyone
Nope. You kinda have to lay the phone on something and but still use a left joystick.. with all of the other movements or target choices done with the other hand.. But you cant hold the phone with the right hand to do that.
If the target you have to throw to is on the left of the field you have to obscure the entire screen just to touch the marker.
And I’m gonna be honest here,, I could not find a good spot to set the phone on to be able to do this. And could not figure out another way of being able to touch all the markers I needed to. And that ultimatly was a deal breaker for me.
I did like how the game speed felt and the graphics were good, only made the Galaxy 9 stutter a little, but this was only during drills, not live games with more going on.
I’m not going to give this a complete fail just because of controls,, but they were bad enough to keep me from the full content.
Maybe linking a gamepad would help? I will save this for later and do a re-play of it when I can get hooked up.
But for now, this sports game is going to be a no go. Will need to look elsewhere.
However,, I do have one I have been playing for a couple weeks,, Baseball 9.. this will be the next Sports Game review.
