I don’t know how some of these movies slip under my radar like this. Especially ones that are right in my narrow window on genres that I truly like.
Equilibrium came out in 2002! And I just seen it this weekend. A Christian Bale and Emily Watson futuristic Big Brotherish flick where emotions and feelings are outlawed.
Now realistically you can read just that last paragraph and pretty much determine the entire movie, but it’s done so, so brilliantly (didn’t wanna go that route, but all I could think of) with so over the top action scenes, that when the heavy hitting moral scenes hit your sort of stunned. Even though you knew exactly how it was playing out since the very beginning.
Right from the getgo you will know you’ve seen this all before, but I still found my self edgy and waiting for the next reaction. And that’s what makes a movie a good movie to me. It even propelled it past the extreme cheese this movie throws in as a bonus. That could be what the title is actually for. Deep emotional morality issues with the perfect balance of severely cornball action.
Even though this movie is over 10 years old, I can recommend this to anyone into the scifi, dystopian, action, maybe even anime and martial art movie genres. I absolutely loved this movie, only to find the critics hated it.
Its on Netflix so it’s easy to get. Give it a watch.
